PUBLIC: People Place Environment
Fall 2015
Professor: Sara Jensen Carr

PUBLIC focuses on building and site design with emphasis on site development, analysis, and climatic response.  In our section, we will specifically explore how design shapes public life and how public life can shapes design. What defines Hawaiian public life, especially in the rapidly changing urban fabric of Honolulu? Who are the publics we design for, and how can we enhance their everyday experience?

This semester we will examine the interface of human and natural ecologies. After building analytical and design skills via a series of short exercises with the other ARCH 341 studios, we will work on a comprehensive landscape-based design problem with the McCully-Moiliili Neighborhood Board, from site analysis to schematic design.
